Even the Map...

San Antonio's River Walk looks very strange after a hike in the mountains three weeks ago. The water is a cloudy green and all of the vegetation has been landscaped. The wild life around it has convinced me that I was wrong when I argued that it was possible that some men needed to wait to marry. The way that everyone dressed does make it obvious that they are quite desperate.

On the amusing side, half of the maps did not know where I was even though the legend claimed that they did. You mere humans are not the only ones who have a hard time of it.

Also, I bumped into the guy who created IllBeHonest.com. Had a great time talking to him.

So I'll be back home tomorrow night... and back online the next day. See you then!

lost...pun applies

I was on vacation and except for that one flurry a week or so. I tried catching up with all you've posted/linked to figure out what you meant by "half the maps did not know where I was even though the legend claimed that they did" but I've failed miserably. Help!

Total agreement that dress does make people appear desperate...but I must say that also implies a spiritual dimension not merely a physical one. People want to be complimented for looking good...chasing fashion is one way people chase affirmation and meaning.

Lost + Maps

When I take hikes, I tend to take side trails and detours simply because the "regular" hike is too short. Sometimes the detour is larger than intended (ie. a lake gets in the way) and it has made others wonder if I was lost... It is not that I get lost (getting turned around is extremely rare) but that is what the map reference was about. Haha.

The reference to sexual desperation was slightly sarcastic. I don't honestly believe that it is on the same grounds as the video in the "To Marry or Not To Marry" post.

We seek affirmation in pleasure. There are better measuring sticks that we should use but I'm not quite ready to write a long post explaining it. Nose Smile

we were created to worship

You made an interesting connection in my mind on this one...we were created to worship God. So in the vein of our being in his likeness, and that being an attribute (being worshiped) that He has in all goodness...what does that mean as far as marriage and overall engagement, pursuits, and definition of success in society?

Success == Worship?

It may be that I have misunderstood you but I think that you are alluding to our desire for praise in our various actions throughout the day. It is funny how so many modern praise and worship songs make the claim that we only praise God or only worship Him.

I have not performed an exhaustive study but have looked for a verse in the Bible which says that... so far it has been to no avail. What I do see is a jealousy against other gods in our lives.

We see qualities around us that are worthy of notice. The question, I think, is over how we exclaim about each one.

excellent challenge

Wow, you hit something that I might have as an assumption without a solid basis. Let me get back to you on that.

okay, mental check results

While a mental review hasn't hit any specific clear mandate, I think you'll agree there are a lot of indications that's a primary reason for mankind. Maybe start with "the first and greatest commandment." It could be you're also using a narrower definition of "worship" than I am. I will agree with some issues with praise chorus these days...I tend to think of worship as the way we go about our lives vs. a period of time during a church service. I'll be thinking about this some more.

"Worship"

Yes, I am more narrowly defining "worship" in this case. Context generally confines it to specific types of actions even though you are right that our lives are supposed to ultimately worship God. The first use of the word in the Bible was when Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac, and it meant a specific event (although a lot of Abraham's life dreams went into it).
